Yeah, someone had recommended Before Sunrise and Before Sunset to me awhile ago. Since your recommendation, I watched both of them as well as Mind Game! Before Sunrise and Before Sunset were excellent with just realistic characters and events. I really enjoyed them both, but Mind Game is what really blew me away. I added it to my favourite films list immediately after. Everything about that film was perfect. It was such an experience. Thanks for the suggestion. c:

I've seen Benny & Joon, really liked it. An innocent but disturbing element it has, but it was a nice nostalgia movie.

And I've seen Another Earth, that one just blew me away. Really made me cry though, just felt so sad for that girl, wanted to hug her endlessly. This movie is definitely in my significant list.

Happy you liked it! You ought to watch everything from Studio_4°C , chek their wiki.

Oh and if you really liked Mindgame, try Tekkonkinkreet! Its very badass!

Please lemmy know if you come across anythin neat! C:
I like your recommendations!

Hah. I know your last comment was from Feb. but it's still sitting in my inbox so I should definitely stop being lazy and reply. x) I've seen Tekkonkinkreet and absolutely adored it. It was so exhilarating and had this unique charm. Not to mention the animation style. Gorgeous. I can't think of any recent movies I've seen and enjoyed enough to recommend, not off the top of my head, but what about television series? I might have a couple series to recommend. I've been rewatching "Six Feet Under" lately and it's even better than I recall. It has this tragic sort of beauty to it. Some really cerebral moments. Fantastic story and characters and acting and directing and everything. I'm a big fan. Maybe you'd like it. ^^

Someone's recommended Samurai Champloo to me before. I should definitely give it a shot.
I'm not sure if either of us have mentioned this one yet, but a movie just made its way into my TOP FIVE.
It's called I <3 Huckabees and was absolutely brilliant. ^^ I think you'd like that one too.
And yes it's impossible to watch Six Feet Under and not get sucked in.
But I say time spent doing something you enjoy isn't time wasted at all. c:

Movies I'd recommend are:

Das leben der Anderen (follows a Stasi agent and his involvement with a very rebellious writer at the time)

(Someone put The Mist already! It's a great film) (talks about these monsters that come out of the mist)

Ip Man (the first one) (follows the life of the Bruce Lee's mentor)

Pan's Labyrinth (great animation hit recently)

Grave of the Fireflies (a fairly early miyazaki animation following the tale of a young brother and his sister living in the aftermath of the nuclear bombs in Japan)

Micmacs (greaaaat French silent film released recently. Hilarious and follows a young man's quest for revenge. But in the best way possible).

:) I've only heard of two of the movies on this list... which makes me want to watch all the rest! Thanks for the list.

I do need to see everything form Jean-Pierre Jeunet! He is so wonderful.

There's another great movie called Battle of the Red Cliffs (released in 2008? 2009?) and it's two parts. Don't know if you've seen it yet, but it's gorgeous. More Dynasty Warriors-like then it is Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but a great cast of actors, so no complaints. hah.
